This tool lists all Materials, Lights & cameras in the scene in a simplified list. It also provides shortcuts to quickly assign materials, select all objects with a particular material, Get all materials on selected object, look through camera and renaming.

Opening Hypershade for minor material changes or searching for a material is slow, also locating lights and cameras in a large scene. So I created this tool to easily access these object types & provided few shortcuts for most repetitive tasks. Hope it's useful.


Installation

  • Extract the contents
  • Drag install.mel file into Maya viewport to create script shortcut in active shelf
  • Click on script icon to open Quick Access window.
  • Now you can change the Main drop down, to list out different types of objects in the scene.
  • Below image shows the tool window after it's installed.

Usage:

  • This tool contains a Main Drop down which controls the objects listed in the window. You can switch between Materials / Lights / Cameras in the dropdown menu. When you select materials the window will display all the materials in the scene, similarly for other types.
  • Full Reload Button : Reloads/Refreshes the window. When in materials mode after clicking 'Materials from selection' button, this button helps to load all materials in the scene
  • Materials from selection Button : Works only in Material mode .Only displays Materials assigned to selected Meshes. To return to display all materials in the scene click on full reload.
  • New Material Button : Works only in Material mode . Opens new material window.
  • Rest of the window shows objects in the scene based on dropdown selected. Each object is displayed as a button.


Object button shortcuts

  • LMB Click any object button like Material btn / Light btn / Camera btn will select that particular object in viewport.
  • SHIFT + LMB Click any object button like Material btn / Light btn / Camera btn will open a rename window to enter a new name for that object.
  • CTRL + LMB Click  any Camera button to look through that camera
  • CTRL + LMB Click any Material button to assign that material to selected Mesh or faces in viewport.
  • CTRL + SHIFT + LMB Click any Material button to select all faces or objects having that material
