This script breaks any skinned mesh into separate small meshes and constraints them to the joints to improve performance. Performance Improved depends on the type of rig.
Any Deformers like blend shapes, Lattice etc.; will be lost when the mesh is broken down.
Usage
- Extract the contents
- Drag install.mel file into Maya viewport to create script shortcut in active shelf
- Now select any single skinned mesh and click on script icon to generate Proxy Mesh.
Note
- Make sure there is no unnecessary history on the Mesh before executing the script
- Select only one Mesh at a time
- Make sure to keep a copy of original rig file
- When working with characters, Try to separate Face and body and apply the script to only body, as face expressions are not that readable when broken down to pieces.
- If you don't like the gaps in proxy mesh, change the following line in script code ConvertSelectionToContainedFaces; to ConvertSelectionToFaces;
- Don't forget that you can tweak the code according to your needs
