Image Picker for 2D Rigs - Autodesk Maya
When you have a rig based on Image sequences, it's hard to pick the right image based on sequence number, you create custom controls to display all images and add a slider to pick the correct image, but it's time consuming. This script provides window in which it displays all the images in the sequence, when you click on an image it will automatically change the sequence number for you to display the correct image. There are also options to adjust preview image sizes. But to get this functionality you need to follow a simple step mentioned in How to configure your rig section below.
The tool looks as follows, when configured properly.
How to Install
1) copy ImagePicker folder to document/maya/scripts
2) Open maya and select the shelf u want to add the script to
3) Drag the install.mel file into maya
4) Scripts will be added to the active shelf
5) Done :)
How to configure your rig
1) For an image sequence based rig, you would have a texture file node with Use image sequence turned on, and use Image number attribute to control the image. We will configure this to work for our tool.
2) For this tool to work you need to create a control with custom attribute "imgID" (exactly same name with no change in capitalizations)
3) Now open Node editor and connect Control's imgID Attribute to Image sequence Texture file node's Frame Extension attribute. As show below
4) If there are Multiple image sequences use Multiple controls with imgID attribute.
5) That's it now you can use the tool.
How to Use
1) Just select any control with imgID attribute and all the images available in that image sequence will be displayed.
2) You can select any displayed image to change the image on the rig.
